Questions and answers about tattoo appointments, preparation and care.

Before Your Appointment

Please read this section before your first appointment to make sure everything goes according to plan!

  • Eat before you come, and feel free to bring snacks! You don't want to get hungry during a long tattoo session.

  • Wear something comfortable, and either no clothing on that area or clothing that is easy to move out of the way.

  • Don't shave the planned tattoo area.

  • Don't get a sunburn before hand.

Permanent Makeup Specifics:

  • Don't use any products with retinol on that area before the appointment (check the labels!).

Immediate Aftercare

There are several things you should do to care for your tattoo immediately following your service, until it is healed.

  • Keep it clean (see below). Apply coconut oil, Aquafor or A&D Ointment to help promote healing without damaging your new tattoo.

  • Use castile soap or liquid dial gold antibacterial soap to keep your tattoo clean.

  • Yes, several. Avoid aloe vera, neosporin and any lotion that has fragrance.

    For permanent makeup, avoid any product with retinol. Be sure to check your labels!

  • It is really important that you keep your tattoo out of the sun and avoid getting sunburned until it’s healed.

  • First, it’s important that you don’t pick at it. Second, it’s also important that you don’t use aloe vera, neosporin or any lotions that have fragrance in them.

    What you can do is apply coconut oil, Aquafor or A&D Ointment to help promote healing without damaging your new tattoo.

Long-term Care

Extreme or long-term exposure to the sun can and will fade your tattoo. This can be minimized by using sunscreen with at least SPF 15.

General FAQs

  • You can. Just be aware that the healing process might take longer for you.

  • Absolutely. Please tell us if you have any of the following:

    • Allergies

    • Skin sensitivities

    • Are on any medications/blood thinners

    • Health conditions

    • Low pain tolerance

    • Tourette's

    • Hemophilia

    • Prone to fainting

    If you’re on blood thinners, it is generally not recommended to take them the day of the appointment so you’ll want to consult with your primary care physician for the best course of action.

Permanent Makeup FAQs & Care

There are several things you’ll want to take into consideration when getting permanent makeup applied.

    • Make sure you have freshly clean bed linens, so your work doesn’t get infected.

    • Make sure you’re not using any products that have retinol in them for at least a day before your appointment.

  • Don’t wear makeup on or near the area(s) where you’re getting a tattoo (eybrows, lash line, lips, etc.)

  • You’ll want to avoid wearing any makeup near your tattoo for a minimum of a week, or until fully healed.

  • If you’re getting an eyeliner tattoo, you’ll need to remove your lash extensions beforehand (they get in the way). You’ll also need to wait at least a week, or until your tattoo is fully healed, before reapplying them.

  • You’ll want to refrain from any other procedures before or after your appointment. Check with your dermatologist for timing guidelines.

  • You can, but the procedure might trigger a breakout. Most of our clients choose to get on preventative medication prior to an appointment to mititgate these concerns.

  • Absolutely. There are several things we can do (including saline removal and correction work) to correct bad or outdated permanent makeup. Give Kayla a call to discuss your specific situation.
